Tetryzolin eye drops

Tetryzolin is the most commonly used eye drop today. As a so-called sympathetic mimetic, it binds to the conjunctiva via receptors, causing the vessels to contract and thus reduce the swelling in the corresponding part of the eye. In ophthalmology, it is mainly used in the symptomatic treatment of conjunctivitis.

Even after conjunctival irritation, e.g. by dust or smoke, it can successfully contribute to the alleviation of symptoms. One drop of the medication should be administered to the affected eye 2-3 times a day. For this purpose, the lower eyelid should be pulled down with the eye looking upwards and the drop should be placed in the conjunctival sac.

Then the eye should be closed briefly. Tetryzolin eye drops are generally well tolerated. However, local irritation of the conjunctiva or eyelids may occur.

Sometimes itching or burning as well as increased tearing has been observed under Tetryzolin eye drops. Sometimes a temporary dilation of the pupil may also occur, which in turn leads to blurred vision. However, dilated pupils should return to normal within a few hours, otherwise you should consult an ophthalmologist.

The use of eye drops should not be carried out over a longer period of time without a corresponding diagnosis being made.If there is no improvement after using Tetryzolin, the possible cause of the symptoms must be investigated. Overdoses should be reported immediately to your doctor, as increased intake of Tetryzolin can lead to cardiac arrhythmia and general reactions. Even if Tetryzolin eye drops are taken together with other medications, the corresponding instructions should be observed, as interactions between several medications can occur. Tetryzolin eye drops are available from pharmacies, but are not subject to prescription. The package leaflet must be read carefully before taking them.

Tetryzoline Hydrochloride

The active ingredient tetryzolin is also processed and used as a chemical combination with hydrochloride. As tetryzolin hydrochloride, it acts in the same way as tetryzolin, but differs in its chemical structure. In combination with hydrochloride, tetryzolin is mainly used in ophthalmology as eye drops.

Hydrochloride is used in many drug preparations to positively change the water solubility of the drug. In most cases, the effect can thus be somewhat accelerated. Hydrochloride is also added to eye drops to accelerate the effect of tetryzoline.
