Therapy | Inflammation of tendons in the upper arm

Therapy

The therapy of a tendon inflammation depends first of all on the cause which is responsible for the disease. In many cases, the inflammation can already be successfully treated by treating the underlying disease. Depending on the cause, conservative therapy methods or, in rare cases, surgical measures are the main focus of therapy.

If no disease is diagnosed that can be made responsible for the occurrence of the tendon inflammation, overloading of the tendon as the cause is likely. Basically, sparing is the cornerstone of the treatment of tendonitis in the upper arm. This can be achieved either with special splints or tape bandages and in rare cases with a plaster cast.

In addition, it may be advisable to take anti-inflammatory and painkilling medication. These drugs are usually so-called non-steroidal anti-rheumatic drugs (NSAIDs). You can find an overview of the medications here: NSAID Physiotherapy can often shorten the duration of tendonitis.

If these conservative measures are consistently applied, a complete cure of the tendon inflammation can usually be achieved. The application of a tape bandage can help to treat tendonitis of the upper arm. Since immobilisation of the affected tendon is the main focus of the inflammation therapy, the bandage can help to spare the tendon.

The tape bandage distributes loads on the affected muscle to the skin and surrounding muscles. However, it should be noted that the bandage only helps if the tendon is also actively protected. Physical activity that involves strain on the affected tendon should be avoided despite the application of a tape bandage in order not to endanger the success of the therapy.

Although no proof of efficacy has been provided to date, the use of homeopathic medicines is also very popular for tendon inflammation of the upper arm.Depending on the literature, different agents are recommended for tendonitis. Arnica in particular is a popular remedy for treating the inflammation. Most important is the immobilization of the affected tendon. Whether the use of homeopathic remedies is recommended in individual cases or whether conventional medical methods are necessary to restore the function of the upper arm should first be clarified by a physician.
