These tests and quick tests are available
If the affected area is easily accessible manually, a smear can be taken from this area. The material of this smear can then be tested for certain streptococcal species. This makes sense if one suspects a certain streptococcal infection and would like to use an appropriate antibiotic for therapy or as a precaution for pregnant women.
Because otherwise an infection of the newborn child with streptococci can occur during birth. However, a rapid test only serves to provide a further indication of a probable infection. For an actual diagnosis and the proof of a streptococcal infection a cultivation should be carried out in any case, not least to be able to better estimate or prove the effectiveness of the antibiotic that may already have been applied. I recognize a streptococcal infection by these symptoms
The symptoms of a streptococcal infection depend on where the infection is located. In most cases, a streptococcal infection results in inflammation, which then manifests itself with corresponding symptoms such as swelling, redness, overheating, pain and possibly even pus at the appropriate site. This is the case, for example, with inflammation of the tonsils, sinuses, middle ear or bladder, all of which can be caused by streptococci.
Fever can also be a symptom of this group of diseases. However, other causes for these inflammations may also be present, and they usually cause the same symptoms as a streptococcal infection. It is therefore often hardly possible to differentiate between them on the basis of symptoms alone. However, there are also diseases for which only streptococci are possible causes. Scarlet fever is one of them. The symptoms of this are for example
- Fever,
- Nausea,
- An inflammation in the throat and palatine tonsils,
- Difficulty swallowing,
- As well as a typical rash of small red spots, which however leave out the area around the mouth.
