Medical history (history of illness) is an important component in the diagnosis of tonsillitis (inflammation of the tonsils).

- What is the current health status of your relatives?
Social history
- What is your profession?
- Is there any evidence of psychosocial stress or strain due to your family situation?
Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).
- Do you suffer from sore throat and/or fever?
- Are your tonsils swollen?
- Are you noticing any clotty speech?
- Do you suffer from bad breath?
- Do you have enlarged lymph nodes? If so, where?
- How long have these symptoms lasted? Do they occur more frequently?
Vegetative anamnesis incl. nutritional anamnesis.
- Do you practice adequate hygiene of your hands?
- Do you eat a balanced diet?
- Do you exercise regularly in the fresh air?
- Do you smoke? If so, how many cigarettes, cigars or pipes per day?
- Do you use drugs? If yes, what drugs and how often per day or per week?
Self history incl. medication history.
- Pre-existing conditions (infections; immunodeficiencies).
- Surgeries
- Allergies

- Cytostatic drugs (substances that inhibit cell growth or cell division).
