Tooth scheme according to HADERUP

Another widely used tooth formula is the tooth scheme according to Haderup. The teeth of the upper and lower jaw are marked with a plus sign and a minus sign. All teeth in the upper jaw are marked with a plus sign and all teeth in the lower jaw with a minus sign.

Upper jaw right/upper jaw left 8+ 7+ 6+ 5+ 4+ 3+ 2+ 1+ +1 +2 +3 +4 +5 +6 +7 +8 8- 7- 6- 5- 4- 3- 2- 1- -1 -2 -3 -4 -5 -6 -7 -8 Lower jaw right/lower jaw leftFor all tooth formulas, it is generally important to know the starting point of the direction designation. In medicine, in order to avoid misunderstandings, we always start from the patient’s perspective. This means that “upper jaw right” actually refers to the patient’s right upper jaw and not the half of the upper jaw that is on the right as seen from the dentist’s perspective.

The teeth of the deciduous dentition are simply placed in front of a zero in the Haderup tooth formula. In other words, the last molar of the right upper jaw of an infant corresponds to tooth “05+” according to Haderup. The American tooth formula differs slightly from the tooth schemes commonly used in Europe. The teeth are numbered from the upper wisdom tooth of the right jaw to the lower wisdom tooth of the right jaw, there is no doubling between the individual quadrants.
