Treatment
After the fracture has been assessed by the dentist, the therapy is planned. If necessary, an x-ray of the tooth is taken in order to assess the fracture site precisely and exclude damage to the surrounding bone. This could also be interesting for you:
- If possible, the dentist will rebuild the tooth with filling material and then apply an artificial crown to protect it from further fracture.
- Once the nerve canal is opened, a previous root canal treatment would be necessary.
- In the case of deeper fractures, it is advisable to remove the broken wisdom tooth.
- Tooth filling
- Root canal treatment
Prognosis
In the case of small fractures of the wisdom tooth, these are often repairable and no further problems with the tooth are to be expected. In the case of larger fractures, the tooth should be considered for removal, as root canal treatment is more difficult there and a complex reconstruction could have a bad prognosis. After the removal of the wisdom tooth, there are often no further complaints.
