Urinary Bladder Pain: Medical History

Medical history (history of illness) is an important component in the diagnosis of urinary bladder pain.

Family history

  • Is there a history of frequent kidney and urinary tract disease in your family?

Social history

  • Is there any evidence of psychosocial stress or strain due to your family situation?

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • What complaints have you noticed?
  • How long have these changes existed?
  • Do you suffer from urinary urgency?
  • How often do you have to urinate every day?
  • Do you pass large amounts of urine in the process?
  • Has the urine changed in color, consistency and quantity?
  • Do you have any other complaints such as abdominal pain?
  • Do you suffer from incontinence (inability to hold urine)?

Vegetative anamnesis including nutritional anamnesis.

  • Have you lost body weight? Please tell us your body weight (in kg) and height (in cm).
  • Has your bowel movement changed? In quantity, consistency, admixtures? Does it come to pain in the process?
  • Do you smoke? If so, how many cigarettes, cigars or pipes per day?
  • Do you drink alcohol? If yes, what drink(s) and how many glasses per day?
