Conventional nonsurgical therapy methods
- Electrocardioversion: electrocardioversion is the treatment of tachycardic (high-frequency) arrhythmias with direct current through the chest. This method is performed for ventricular tachycardia in patients with severe compromised health.
- Catheter ablation for idiopathic ventricular tachycardia (VT) – VT in which a structural anatomic cause has been ruled out can also be partially treated by catheter ablation:
- When a monomorphic VT causes pronounced symptoms.
- When antiarrhythmic drugs are not effective, not tolerated, or not desired
- Stereotactic radiation therapy to target the site of origin of ventricular arrhythmias. Radiation was delivered by high-precision irradiation after prior high-resolution imaging of the affected ventricle with a mapping system.
Surgical therapy
- An implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) is used to prevent recurrences (refractory tachycardic ventricular arrhythmias with a high risk of sudden cardiac death) (secondary prophylaxis). The system automatically detects ventricular tachycardia and its extreme form, ventricular fibrillation. In the event of the occurrence of the same is an electrical pulse delivery (defibrillation, overstimulation), which can transfer the disturbed heart rhythm to the initial rhythm
