What are the costs of the surgery? | Operate drooping eyelids? – You should know that!

What are the costs of the surgery?

The costs of an operation on drooping eyelids usually amount to about 2000 to 2500€, depending on the clinic. This cost calculation is based on the assumption of a complication-free operation with good preconditions and treatment of both eyes. If only the drooping eyelids are treated, the operation is cheaper than an additional operation on the lacrimal sacs (the equivalent of the drooping eyelids on the lower eyelid).

Often, eyebrows can be slightly lifted as part of hatch-lid surgery, which also increases the costs. The health insurance usually covers the costs if the operation is performed for medical reasons. However, if you visit a renowned specialist clinic or wish to have extras during the operation, you may have to expect a contribution to the costs. Therefore, before the operation, you should consult your health insurance company about the exact scope of cost coverage. Surgery performed for aesthetic reasons is not covered by health insurance.

Is it possible to correct drooping eyelids without surgery?

Correcting drooping eyelids without surgery is especially useful if the drooping eyelids are caused by a disease. For example, hormonal disorders can promote the development of drooping eyelids. The most common cause of eye changes caused by a metabolic disorder is a malfunction of the thyroid gland.

Both over- and under-functioning of the organ can lead to eye changes. Both diseases can be treated with medication. If necessary, hyperthyroidism can also be treated by surgical intervention on the thyroid gland.

Once the thyroid gland has returned to normal function, the changes in the eyes can recede again, so that surgery on drooping eyelids is not necessary. Other hormonal changes, such as stress and/or lack of sleep, can also cause drooping eyelids. In these cases, too, an operation is not advisable at first, as the complaints can be somewhat reduced by better sleep hygiene and more balance.

If excessive consumption of cigarettes, alcohol or drugs is the cause of the development of drooping eyelids, the patient should first try to avoid these substances. Age-related drooping eyelids, on the other hand, cannot usually be corrected without an operation.
