What can be the causes of chronic appendicitis?

Appendicitis is usually an acute clinical picture that occurs and is treated within a few hours to days. However, there are also cases in which symptoms such as pain in the right lower abdomen occur again and again, sometimes more and sometimes less pronounced. The cause can be a chronic inflammation of the appendix.

However, such a progression occurs at most in one in a hundred people suffering from appendicitis. Many doctors are also of the opinion that chronic appendicitis does not exist as a clinical picture and that the symptoms in such cases must be due to a different cause. On the other hand, it is suspected that a closure of the appendix, which is always only temporary but more frequent, can lead to chronic appendicitis.
