Which doctor should I see?

In the case of palate pain, the patient has various options as to which doctor he or she will finally consult. In most cases the way to the dentist is obvious, because palatal pain often originates from teeth or even nerve pain. Dentists have a good overview of the possible causes, especially in the oral cavity.

If the doctor to whom one goes cannot do anything for the patient because the cause corresponds to another specialty, he or she can refer the patient accordingly. For many patients, the first point of contact can also be the family doctor. In the case of typical viral or bacterial infections, the family doctor can initiate appropriate treatment with rinses or solutions.

If children are affected by pain in the palatal area, parents should consult a pediatrician directly. This doctor can often help the little patients best. In some cases, if the child is already very weakened due to an infection or if the oral cavity continues to swell, parents should also consider going directly to a pediatric clinic, as they often receive faster and more intensive treatment for their child there.
