Pathogenesis (disease development)

Zika virus is one of the flaviviruses. They are transmitted by mosquitoes of the genus Aedes (Aedes aegypti (Egyptian tiger mosquito; main vector), Aedes africanus, Aedes luteocephalus, Aedes vittatus, Aedes furcider). If one has been bitten by an infected mosquito, the virus first attacks dendritic cells. From there, it spreads throughout the body.Aedes mosquitoes also bite during the day.
