Effect

Both Mobilat® Gel and Mobilat® Ointment contain the above mentioned non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. The Mobilat® gel contains the active ingredient salicylic acid and the Mobilat® ointment contains flufenamic acid. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs inhibit the synthesis of prostaglandin by inhibiting a specific enzyme, the so-called cyclooxygenase type I and II.

Prostaglandins belong to a certain group of tissue hormones and are normally used in the body to cause inflammation or an increase in fever as a defensive reaction. If the production of these hormones is now inhibited, there is a decrease in inflammation, fever, swelling and pain. In addition, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs inhibit platelet aggregation, i.e. the “sticking” of the blood platelets, which influences blood clotting, which is also used in the treatment of coronary heart disease, among other things.

Salicylic acid also has an additional corneal dissolving effect and is antimicrobial against fungi and bacteria. The Mobilat® gel also contains another active ingredient. This is chondroitin polysulfate, which, like the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, also has analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects, but is not directly included in this group.

Interactions

In principle, no specific interactions between the Mobilat® ointment and other medications are known. However, a doctor or pharmacist should be consulted if Mobilat® ointment or Mobilat® gel is taken at the same time as other medicines. It should be noted that Mobilat® gel, due to the salicylic acid it contains, can increase the permeability of the skin for other drugs in this area, which can lead to increased absorption of the active ingredient into the body. In addition, long-term use of Mobilat® Gel can increase the effects and adverse effects of methotrexate, which acts as an immunosuppressant, and sulfonylureas, which lower blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetes mellitus.

In principle, all drugs can cause adverse effects in the body in addition to their desired effects. Depending on the site of attack and the place where the drug acts, completely different side effects can occur. This applies to both Mobilat® gel and Mobilat® ointment.

The largest human organ, the skin, can also be affected by possible adverse effects of Mobilat® Ointment or Mobilat® Gel. This can lead to reddening, itching, burning or an unpleasant skin rash in the form of wheals. The use of Mobilat® Ointment can also lead to allergic skin reactions known as contact dermatitis.

Contact dermatitis, also known as allergic contact eczema, is an inflammatory disease of the skin. Both direct and indirect contact with the allergen (here now the ointment or gel) leads to a sensitization of certain white blood cells, the so-called T-lymphocytes. Renewed contact with the triggering allergen leads to a slightly delayed inflammatory reaction of the skin, which can manifest itself in the form of swelling, redness or even scaling.

Occasionally, allergic reactions of the eyes may also occur if they come into contact with the ointment. This reaction is also called allergic conjunctivitis (inflammation of the conjunctiva). Dizziness and migraine can also be occasional side effects when using Mobilat® ointment.

Other known side effects in the respiratory tract can manifest themselves in the form of difficult breathing and even severe shortness of breath, also known as dyspnoea. Furthermore, undesirable co-reactions of the gastrointestinal tract can occur, which can manifest themselves as diarrhea, nausea and stomach complaints. If side effects occur in any form, immediate discontinuation of Mobilat® ointment or Mobilat® gel is indicated.

In the event of acute reactions, an additional attempt can be made to wash off any remaining gel or ointment with water. A doctor must also be consulted immediately. Such undesirable effects usually disappear after the end of the drug therapy.
