  • Brewing small pieces of onion into onion tea is another way of using tea.

    Onion tea is effective against inflammatory pathogens and cleans irritated mucous membranes.

  • Gargling of different solutions can also reduce the symptoms of angina. A well-tried household remedy here is apple vinegar. This can also be mixed with a teaspoon of honey, for example.

    The solution should then be gargled for about one minute and spat out again. The apple vinegar also has a cleansing effect on the area of inflamed almonds. In addition, it provides relief from swelling. The honey also has a pain-relieving effect. Alternatively, salt water can be used, which disinfects and supports the moistening of the mucous membranes of the throat.

How often and how long should I use the household remedies?

How often and how long the household remedies for sore throats should be used depends on the type and severity of the complaints. In principle, the above mentioned household remedies can be used safely over a longer period of time. Caution should be taken with cold throat compresses, as these can lead to aggravation of the symptoms if used for too long.

  • In particular, tea should be drunk as often as possible during the day to ensure sufficient hydration of the body.

What should be avoided?

With sore throats there are some so-called triggers that can aggravate existing complaints. These include alcohol and smoking. These two triggers have a strengthening effect on existing pain due to the harmful substances.

  • Even spicy and hard food, for example large chips or hard bread, can make sore throats worse.
  • It is also important to avoid that not enough liquid is absorbed.
  • Dry breathing air also causes the mucous membranes to dry out. Therefore, regular moistening of the neck should be ensured.
