Recommendations for Cleaning and Care: Oily Skin (Seborrhea)

The skin is not only a reflection of the soul, but also of the nutrient and vital substance supply. Despite a rich, wholesome food supply, a sufficient individual vital substance supply is not always guaranteed. An insufficient supply of vital substances can be caused, for example, by incorrect food preparation or by an individual need for additional vital substances. This can not only be noticeable in the form of physical health problems, such as a decrease in performance, but can also leave its mark on the skin. Skin problems such as dry or oily skin, rashes and itching, hypersensitive skin can also be caused by an insufficient supply of nutrients and vital substances. The appearance and condition of your skin shape your self-image and thus your self-confidence to a particular extent.Pay attention to the following skin signals

  • The skin is shiny
  • The skin tends to impurities
  • Make-up does not last long
  • The hair becomes greasy very quickly

How to clean oily skin?

Oily skin requires regular cleansing as well as protection during stresses such as occupational skin stresses – mechanical, chemical, etc. – as well as strong UV radiation (sunscreen), etc.Note: Oily skin does not mean that it is right to dry out the skin! Please do not completely degrease your skin by washing too often, so that the protective water-lipid mantle (acid mantle) is not destroyed. A completely degreased skin produces more sebum, which leads to skin impurities. Use skin care products that control oil sheen and sebum production, refine your skin texture and counteract skin impurities. The skin should be cleansed of excess skin surface oil, sweat, care product residues and dirt. Special cleansing agents are used in addition to the basic cleansing agent of water:

  • Soaps – alkali salts of fatty acids.
  • Syndets – anionic, cationic, amphoteric and non-ionic soaps.
  • Alcoholic skin cleansing solutions
  • Solvents Attention! These should only be used on very dirty skin.

It is recommended to use a mild, non-re-greasing detergent that is adapted to the pH of the skin surface and removes excess oil. The use of cleansers in the slightly acidic range with a low pH around 5.5 thereby supports the natural acid mantle of the skin. The correct cleaning technique is that the skin is not irritated, tugged or stretched.Clean the skin with a cleansing lotion, cleansing cream or syndet. Use it to lather the skin. You can use a special brush for this, which allows you to clean the face thoroughly, but still gently. After that, rinse the skin thoroughly with lukewarm water. Afterwards, rinse with cold water, as warm water stimulates sebum production. After cleansing, use a facial toner containing alcohol, which normalizes sebaceous secretions and provides a well-groomed, matte complexion. Put the toner on a cotton pad and gently spread it over your face.Cleansing of oily skin should be done at least once – if necessary – twice a day.Cleanse your skin intensively once a week with a peeling. Ask your beautician for advice on which product is best for you. Attention!A medium superficial as well as a strong peeling should be performed only by an experienced doctor. You can use a cleansing mask once or twice a week after cleansing and possible peeling, which absorbs excess sebaceous secretions and makes impurities subside. Afterwards, use your facial toner. It disinfects and inhibits inflammation. You can open constricted pores with a weekly steam bath.

Steam Bath

Fill a large-size saucepan half full with water. Heat the water until it steams. Then place the pot on the table with a pad and sit in front of it at a comfortable distance. For oily skin, use the following additives to your steam bath: peppermint, bergamot, lavender, lemons, rosemary and rose petals.

How to take care of oily skin?

Oily skin does not need additional lipid care (fat care). It may even react to it with irritation and the formation of pimples. The skin should therefore be re-greased during cleansing only if necessary. There are special low-fat moisturizers or lotions for oily skin.During the day, moisturizing with an oil-in-water type (milk type) care product is recommended. This care product has a cooling effect by releasing water. After water evaporation, a protective lipid coat remains on the skin surface. Also fat-free gels are well suited for oily skin as day care.In the evening, for night rest, after cleansing, a light moisturizer or lotion can be used to regenerate the skin. If you have particularly oily skin, you can do without it.

How to take away the oily shine from the skin?

One problem with oily skin is that it shines easily. Powder absorbs the oil and mattifies the skin. Powder can be dusted on the particularly shiny areas in addition to a tinted day cream or oil-free mattifying makeup.Note! Most cosmetic powders are so micro-fine that they do not close the pores, but still bind the shine inconspicuously.
