Abnormal Weight Gain: Diagnostic Tests

Optional medical device diagnostics – depending on the results of the history, physical examination, and obligatory laboratory parameters – for differential diagnostic clarification.

  • Thyroid sonography (ultrasound examination of the thyroid gland) – for suspected thyroid disease.
  • Abdominal sonography (ultrasound examination of the abdominal organs) – when pathological changes in the abdominal organs are suspected.
  • Vaginal sonography (ultrasound examination by means of an ultrasound probe inserted into the vagina (vagina)) – on suspicion of gynecological diseases (eg, ovarian cyst (ovarian cyst), ascites (abdominal fluid)) or pregnancy.
  • Electrocardiogram (ECG; recording of the electrical activity of the heart muscle).
  • Echocardiography (echo; cardiac ultrasound) – for suspected structural heart disease.
  • X-ray of the thorax (X-ray thorax/chest), in two planes [signs of heart failure (cardiac insufficiency)].
  • Computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the abdomen (abdominal CT/abdominal MRI) – if hormone-producing tumors in the abdomen are suspected (e.g., insulinoma/pancreas (pancreas))
  • Computed tomography/magnetic resonance imaging of the skull (cranial CT or.cCT/cranial MRI or cMRI) – for suspected hormone-producing tumors in the central nervous system/pituitary gland (pituitary gland).
