Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia: Medical History

Medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).

Family history

  • What is the general health status of your family members?
  • Do you have a history of cancer in your family?

Social anamnesis

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • Have you noticed any changes such as fatigue, pallor?
  • Have you noticed an increased tendency to bleed?
  • Do you have a fever or other signs of infection?
  • Do you suffer from shortness of breath?*
  • Have you noticed any lymph node enlargements? If so, are they painful?
  • Do you suffer from bone or joint pain?
  • For men, is there swelling of the testicles?
  • Since when do these changes exist?

Vegetative anamnesis including nutritional anamnesis.

  • Are you overweight? Give us your body weight (in kg) and height (in cm).
  • Has your appetite changed?
  • Have you noticed any unwanted change in weight?
  • Have you noticed any changes in digestion and/or water excretion?
  • Do you suffer from sleep disturbances?
  • Do you smoke? If yes, how many cigarettes, cigars or pipes per day?
  • Do you use drugs? If yes, what drugs and how often per day or per week?

Self history incl. medication history.

  • Previous diseases (previous tumor diseases).
  • Surgeries (previous tumor surgeries).
  • Radiotherapy
  • Allergies
  • Environmental history (radiation exposure in early childhood; industrial waste, unspecified; agricultural chemical products, unspecified; benzene).
  • Drug history (chemotherapy?).
