Application | Treat nail fungus with vinegar

Application

The clear advantage of the use of vinegar in the treatment of nail fungus is the fact that it is a substance that is available in almost every household. This fact makes the application very attractive for patients who are ashamed of nail fungus. A disadvantage in the use of vinegar in the treatment of fungal infection is the lower effectiveness compared to pharmacy-bound drugs.

Pronounced fungal infections that may have already infiltrated the nail bed cannot usually be successfully treated by regular use of vinegar over several weeks. The actual application, or the application of vinegar is again quite simple. Depending on the severity of the fungal infestation, the affected patient can use pure vinegar or make a solution from vinegar and tap water. However, when using pure vinegar and/or high doses of vinegar essence, care should be taken to ensure that the skin surface around the infected nail is not damaged.

For this reason, the edges of the nail surface should be covered with a layer of skin cream before the application of vinegar. In this way, less of the corrosive substance can reach the skin. Afterwards, the pure vinegar, vinegar essence or diluted solution can be applied to a cotton ball and carefully spread on the nail surface.

After the application, the hands must not be washed for at least half an hour. Only in this way can the effect of the vinegar unfold completely. Depending on the extent of the nail fungus, this household remedy must be applied two to three times a day for about three weeks. If there is no improvement within the first days after the beginning of the treatment, it is recommended to consult a specialist (dermatologist) as soon as possible and to continue the therapy with a conventional medicine.

Prospects of success

The success of the nail fungus treatment with vinegar depends on the extent of the infection and the regularity of the application. In the case of slightly pronounced fungal infections, the use of vinegar shows quick success with many affected persons. The treatment of pronounced infections, on the other hand, is in most cases not promising with the use of vinegar and/or vinegar essence. Fungal infections that have already infiltrated the nail bed are not successful at all.
