Chamomile Real: Effect and Side Effects

Chamomile flowers have anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antispasmodic and anti-flatulent effects. These effects are attributed in particular to the content of sesquiterpenes and flavonoids.

For example, alpha-bisabolol is known to inhibit the release of a digestive enzyme (pepsin) in the stomach, which relieves various gastrointestinal complaints. The anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties are also evident when applied topically.

Interestingly, the drug is also said to have sedative, anti-anxiety and muscle relaxing effects. Chamomile also stimulates skin metabolism.
