Corset types
A corset is adapted to the specific patient so that it can always provide support exactly where the spine shows instability. In order to enable the most exact fitting possible, an X-ray image is usually taken in combination with a 3D body scan. Plaster casts can then be used to create a custom-made corset.
The fitting of a corset should always be carried out by an experienced orthopedic technician. Most often, from a Cobb angle of 20 degrees upwards, the so-called Chêneau corset is prescribed: It is asymmetrically designed and is intended to apply pressure to certain areas. As a result, the body moves into the free spaces of the corset, especially when breathing in. These free spaces are adjusted so that the spine develops in the intended direction.
