In many countries, there are no drugs containing dehydrochlormethyltestosterone on the market. The active ingredient was lanicized in the 1960s and distributed by the state-owned VEB Jenapharm, based in Jena, Thuringia (Oral-Turinabol tablets).

Structure and properties

Dehydrochloromethyltestosterone (C20H27ClO2, Mr = 334.9 g/mol) is a chlorinated derivative of methyltestosterone.

Effects

Dehydrochloromethyltestosterone has anabolic and androgenic properties. It promotes muscle growth and increases physical performance. The effects are due to binding to intracellular androgen receptors.

Indications

There are no longer any medical indications.

Abuse

Dehydrochloromethyltestosterone can be abused as a doping agent for competitive sports. According to the doping list, administration is prohibited both during and between competitions. The anabolic steroid was systematically and extensively used as a doping agent in the former GDR. It was even administered to female athletes and girls who showed masculinization as a result. The doping program was successful and was used in almost all disciplines.

Adverse effects

In addition to the typical side effects of anabolic steroids, dangerous liver damage was observed in particular.
