Duration | Vomiting of bile

Duration

The duration of bile vomiting depends on the underlying cause. An intestinal obstruction can be a very acute event that develops within a few hours, but it can also be a gradual condition that develops within a few days. Vomiting can therefore persist for a few days before treatment is given.

As a rule, however, a quick medical clarification should be made if you are vomiting bilious, so that the vomiting is quickly stopped. Conditions such as reflux disease or gastritis, which are also associated with vomiting, often referred to in the vernacular as “bilious vomiting”, can last for months or even years. However, this is not actually the vomiting of bile.
