Foreskin Hypertrophy, Phimosis and Paraphimosis: Complications

The following are the most important diseases or complications that may be contributed to by phimosis:

Genitourinary system (kidneys, urinary tract-genital organs) (N00-N99).

  • Balanitis (acorn inflammation).
  • Balanoposthitis – inflammation of the glans and foreskin.
  • Ballooning of the foreskin during micturition (urination).
  • Urinary tract infections (UTI)
  • Preputial stones – stone formation under the foreskin, consisting of smegma and urinary salts.

The following are the main diseases or complications that can be co-conditioned by paraphimosis:

Genitourinary system (kidneys, urinary tract – sex organs) (N00-N99).

  • Gangrene (special form of coagulation necrosis; this occurs after prolonged relative or absolute ischemia and is characterized by necrosis (death of cells), tissue shrinkage, and blackish discoloration) of the glans penis (glans)
