Ganglion Cyst (Gideon’s Disease): Symptoms, Complaints, Signs

The following symptoms and complaints may indicate a ganglion (overbone):

  • Prallel elastic smooth expulsion of a joint capsule or tendon sheath:
    • Not displaceable
    • Well delimitable
    • May cause pain or limit mobility

Appears more pronounced in certain joint positions (e.g., flexion/flexion of the wrist).

The following body parts are commonly affected:

  • Back of the hand
  • Wrist
  • Popliteal fossa
  • Meniscus, lateral (lateral)
  • Ankle joint
  • Arch of the foot

Rarely, a ganglion occurs intraosseously (located in bone). In such cases, it often occurs in the femoral head (head of the femur), malleolus (ankle), or carpal bones.
