Green bowel movement in the child
Green bowel movements in children are in most cases a consequence of their diet. Depending on the amount of food ingested, the color of the stool can change more or less significantly. For example, sweets with a lot of green food coloring can cause a green coloring. But also the increased consumption of green vegetables such as peas, broccoli or green fruit, such as green grapes, can cause the discoloration. Depending on how much the children have eaten, stomach aches can also occur. Only when the green discoloration lasts longer and the reason can no longer be found in the food they have eaten should a doctor be consulted.
Duration Prognosis
As a rule, green bowel movements are a one-time event that has its origin in nutrition or a short-term dysregulation of the bowel, so they are completely harmless. As soon as the conditions have returned to normal, the stool also regains its normal color. However, if the green color of the stool continues over a longer period of time, it is essential to investigate the cause.
As a rule, these are also harmless causes that can be easily remedied. Only in very rare cases is the green coloration caused by tumors.
