Home remedy for stomach aches

Introduction

Stomach pain is one of the most common complaints worldwide. They are typically located directly under the sternum and can be stabbing, burning or pressing, temporary or long lasting. They are often accompanied by loss of appetite, nausea or vomiting.

As varied as the pain can be, so can the causes. They can be harmless. However, serious causes such as a permanent gastritis, wounds, stomach ulcers or tumours can also cause stomach pain.

If there are signs of dangerous causes such as blood in the stool or vomit, prolonged stomach pain, high fever, severe diarrhea or a significant, unintended weight loss, a doctor should be consulted as soon as possible. There are various home remedies for many types of stomach pain. Some of them can relieve the symptoms, support healing and shorten the recovery time. Unfortunately, there is no remedy that helps with all complaints, so it is important to be aware of the cause of the stomach problems. However, in the case of serious illnesses requiring treatment, they should not replace conventional medicine, but should be used as a support.

Tea as a home remedy for the treatment of stomach aches

In case of stomach ache, different kinds of tea can provide relief. One of the best known is chamomile tea. Camomile has a mild antibacterial as well as anti-inflammatory effect, which is why it is best taken in cases of stomach upset or mild inflammation of the stomach lining.

If fresh chamomile is used in the preparation, no more than ten flowers should be brewed in one liter of water, otherwise the symptoms may be aggravated. If you like it hotter, you can drink freshly brewed ginger. A handful of ginger should be peeled and cooked for 10-15 minutes.

Due to its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects, ginger can relieve stomach aches and additionally support digestion. If, in addition to stomach pain, flatulence and a feeling of fullness also occur, fennelaniseed-caraway tea is helpful. It can be purchased or boiled up fresh after the seeds have been crushed by poking and usually has an antispasmodic and relaxing effect. If stomach aches occur in connection with a lot of stress, a tea with lemon balm flowers may be the right choice. Melissa usually has a relaxing effect and can thus help to calm the stomach.
