- Drug therapy for nail formation disorders depends on the underlying cause.
- For nutritive (“nourishing”) therapy, a dietary supplement for skin, hair and nails can be taken if necessary.

- Psoriasis-related nail changes (yellowish-brownish discoloration of the nail plates):
- Use of a nail polish containing clobetasol (clobetasol propionate/derivative of betamethasone 0.05% DMSO (dimethyl sulfoxide; organic solvent) q.s.(quantum satis (Latin for “as much as necessary,” “sufficient amount”)), nail polish 3.3 ml; i.e., nail polish for nail psoriasis, applied to affected nails 1 × daily before bedtime).
- If necessary, additionally in moderately severe courses: three times injection of about 0.1 ml triamcinolone 40 mg crystal suspension in the nail fold; injection intervals: 4 or 6 weeks.
Supplements (dietary supplements; vital substances)
Suitable dietary supplements should contain the following vital substances:
- Vitamins (A, C, D3, E, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12, folic acid, biotin).
- Trace elements (iron, copper, manganese, molybdenum, selenium, zinc).
- Fatty acids (omega-3 fatty acids: eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA); omega-6 fatty acids: gamma-linolenic acid (GLA)).
- Secondary plant compounds (eg, beta-carotene; green tea, grape seed / olive polyphenols; lycopene).
- Other vital substances (silica; coenzyme Q10).
