What is a nutritional consultation?
During a nutritional consultation, a patient or customer who takes advantage of the consultation is advised on questions regarding nutrition and healthy living. The nutritional consultation is based on the patient’s or customer’s initial situation, objectives and questions. A nutritional consultation can be helpful in the case of various illnesses that require a change in lifestyle, for example allergies, intolerances or diabetes mellitus. In addition, a consultation can be helpful in achieving weight loss or following a lasting, healthy lifestyle.
How does a nutritional consultation work?
Usually, the initial situation is first discussed during a nutritional consultation. The customer is requested to describe his current nourishing way as exactly as possible. Before one visits a nourishing consultation, it can be thus meaningful to take its eating habits under the magnifying glass and note meal, time and portion size.
Often here already unhealthy habits are noticeable, which are uncovered in the context of the nourishing consultation. Next one formulates a goal together with the nourishing consultant. This can be a certain weight loss, a change of diet due to intolerance or simply the change of diet to a healthier lifestyle.
Now a nutrition plan is worked out together. Here, no diet should be formulated, but a recommendation for a change in diet should be given, which the customer can understand and incorporate into his or her individual daily routine. A nutritional consultation usually takes care of a changeover on a long-term basis, in regular appointments the success is controlled or if necessary an adjustment of the plan is made.
Who bears the costs for a nutritional consultation?
A good, detailed and successful nutritional consultation is usually associated with a high expenditure of time. Moreover, it is a recommendation that is individually adapted to the customer. A nourishing consultation is thus a service with appropriate fee.
Also by subsequent dates the costs of the nourishing consultation can rise. The question about a reimbursement of costs for the nourishing consultation arises thus often. In principle there is no blanket answer to the question.
With an illness the consultation can be taken over usually by the health insurance company partly. However, this also depends on the statutory health insurance company with which the customer is insured. Some reimburse the complete costs, others only a small part.
In any case, a medical certificate of necessity is required for the subsidy. In addition, not all nutritional consultations are subsidized, depending on how they are certified. Privately insured persons must also obtain information about a cost subsidy from their health insurance company.
