Oxprenolol is no longer available in many countries. Trasicor, slow-trasitensine (+ chlortalidone), and slow-trasicor are off label.

Structure and properties

Oxprenolol (C15H23NO3, Mr = 265.3 g/mol) is present in drugs as oxprenolol hydrochloride, a racemate and a white crystalline powder that is very soluble in water.

Effects

Oxprenolol (ATC C07AA02) has antihypertensive and antiarrhythmic properties, among others. Oxprenolol is a nonselective lipophilic beta blocker with sympatholytic activity and mild to moderate intrinsic sympathomimetic activity (ISA). Oxprenolol has a short half-life of one to two hours and therefore has been administered in sustained-release tablet form.
