Pregnancy | Heel pain

Pregnancy

During pregnancy, pain in the heel is common. This is probably due to the significant weight gain, which leads to increased stress on the entire foot, but above all also represents a significant additional load on the heel. During pregnancy, the increase in weight often leads to changes in posture and thus in statics, which ultimately also affects a change in the arch of the foot, so that the longitudinal arch may drop.

In addition, pronounced edema can also occur in the area of the lower legs and feet, so that a shoe that becomes too tight can lead to pain and discomfort. Especially water in the feet is very common. Raising the legs can therapeutically reduce the formation of edema and thus help to relieve the heel.

Child

Pain in the heel of a child can be associated with the so-called “apophysitis calcanei“.This disease causes a disorder in the growth plate of the calcaneus. The apophysis of this bone, i.e. the bony process to which the Achilles tendon is attached, becomes softer and softer as the disease progresses. As a result, the affected child feels severe pain in the heel.

Apophysis calcanei is the most common cause of heel pain in children. In general, it can be assumed that boys who do a lot of sports are particularly often affected, with significant strain on the heel bone. In addition, severe overweight can lead to excessive strain on the bony foot and, in a child, pain in the heel
