Prognosis | Knee school: physiotherapy for knee problems

Prognosis

A damaged cartilage is not able to regenerate, i.e. heal again. However, knee training can prevent or at least slow down the progression of the disease and the accompanying symptoms, so that the unpleasant pain can be reduced.

Diagnosis

Arthrosis can be detected in the X-ray image through a narrower joint space. In physiotherapy there are various tests to provoke the individual structures of the joint and thus test for pain. In the case of knee pain, the affected structure can thus be identified by checking the ligaments, menisci, joint surfaces and muscles and suitable knee school exercises can be trained.

Prophylaxis

Regular exercise is recommended as a precautionary measure to keep your knee joints healthy. In addition to the exercises from the knee school, joint-gentle sports such as swimming (especially crawling, as the leg paddle movement is gentler than the “frog leg stroke“), cycling or walking are suitable for this. You use the movement without great stress.

In addition, physical overweight should be avoided – every gram weighs on the knee joints. Carrying heavy objects, long static and one-sided loads and high heels also damage the knee joint. Even a healthy knee has the advantages of a knee school. This way, the structures can be kept healthy instead of later causing pain with every step and long-term problems.

Summary

Whether you have a healthy or diseased knee, the knee school with joint-gentle behavior, the avoidance of overloading and the regular performance of stabilizing exercises, is useful and very important for everyone. Sufficient exercise is essential for a healthy knee and prevents injuries with prolonged pain or even surgery.
