Prognosis of chances of recovery
The chances of cure and prognosis of rectal cancer depend on many factors. In addition to the tumor stage, individual factors are also important. 10-30% of cases occur after successful therapy of colorectal cancer, a recurrence of the tumor. The highest risk of developing a second tumor is in the first 2 years, while after 5 years the risk of recurrence is very low. The mortality rate during surgery is 2-4%.
Life rateSurvival chance
In addition to individual factors such as the patient’s general health or other concomitant diseases, the survival rate of rectal cancer depends on the stage of the carcinoma. In medicine, the survival rate is often described by the 5-year survival rate. While statistically patients in stage I have a 5-year survival rate of 95%, the rate drops to 85% in stage II and 55% in stage III. In stage IV the 5-year survival rate is only 5%.
