Prophylaxis | Pain after caesarean section

Prophylaxis

To avoid pain after the caesarean section, there is little that a patient can do. On the one hand, it is important that the patient makes sure that she is not too overweight before the pregnancy, as this can be a great danger and burden for the child and the patient. Also during pregnancy it is important not to eat for two but to pay attention to the eating habits as much as possible.

The more overweight a patient is, the more difficult the wound healing after the caesarean section will be and the greater the pain after the caesarean section. A further good prophylaxis is it, if the female patient goes during the pregnancy also at the end of the pregnancy again and again for a walk to promote thus the blood circulation of the complete body. The better the blood circulation, the better the wound healing later and the less pain a patient has after the Caesarean section.

Prognosis

If a patient regularly cares for her C-section scar and makes sure that she keeps moving, the pain after the C-section should be so minimal within a few days that the patient can leave the hospital. This is usually the case after 5-7 days. Often stitches are used which dissolve on their own after 10 days, in other cases the clamps or stitches have to be removed after about 10 days.

It takes about 6 weeks until the scar has completely healed, depending on the patient. Until then, pain may occur again and again, but most patients have hardly any pain before then and can arrange their everyday life almost completely normal. Nevertheless, during the first 6-8 weeks, care should be taken not to carry and lift heavy objects, as this can cause an unnecessary delay in wound healing.
