Proton pump inhibitors | Medicines for stomach pain

Proton pump inhibitors

The proton pump inhibitors inhibit the proton-potassium pump in the gastric mucosa. This contributes to the formation of gastric acid by releasing protons, so that gastric acid production is inhibited by the proton pump inhibitors. The blockade takes place irreversibly, so that the acid can only be secreted again when the pumps are formed again after two to three days.

Proton pump inhibitors rarely trigger side effects. The side effects described include diarrhoea, abdominal pain, bloating and dizziness. In the meantime, proton pump inhibitors are prescribed to an unnecessarily disproportionate number of patients, sometimes without a proper indication.

Homeopathy

In the case of mild symptoms, medication can and should be avoided in many cases. For digestive problems or cramps in the stomach, simple tricks, natural or homeopathic remedies can help to alleviate them. A hot water bottle or a hot bath can relieve slight cramps.

Hot teas with natural additives such as caraway, aniseed, fennel or chamomile can help. They also provide relief for irritations of the mucous membranes, for example acid irritations of the lower esophagus. Depending on the type of stomach pain, different homeopathic remedies are used.

Nux vomica” is a popular remedy for complaints that occur after eating or after drinking alcohol. With homeopathic remedies, the circumstances and mental condition of the patient must be taken into account. Depending on the state of mind and organic cause of the stomach pain, a different homeopathic remedy must be used. In case of severe pain, however, self-treatment should be avoided. Severe cramps or colic that persist and occur with further symptoms must be examined by orthodox medicine.

Naturopathy

Before you consider taking medication to treat stomach pain, you should first try out a few tried and tested home remedies, which often provide relief. For example, herbal teas have a calming effect on the stomach lining.Among other things they have a soothing effect: Warmth in the form of hot-water bottles or heat pads is also often used to relieve stomach aches, as they relax the organ muscles. In addition, one should pay attention to one’s habits if stomach aches occur frequently.

Avoid small meals between meals and excessive consumption of sweets. Furthermore, high-fat and opulent meals should also be avoided. One should get into the habit of eating at fixed times. Likewise a strong consumption of alcohol and cigarettes can lead to stomach complaints and should be throttled therefore in any case.
