Puberty | Lumps in the breast in men

Puberty

Pain in the area of the male breast is not uncommon during puberty. In very few cases there is reason for concern. Body and hormone balance are subject to constant changes in adolescents during puberty.

For example, some boys may experience breast growth. This is called pubertal gynecomastia. This is caused by changes in the sex hormone household, which can also lead to the production of female sex hormones.

Sometimes the rapid growth of the breasts can even be painful and make the person concerned anxious. In the very few cases, however, treatment is necessary, as gynecomastia usually recedes of its own accord by the age of twenty. However, if the excess breast tissue remains, surgical removal may be considered for cosmetic reasons. Pain and palpable hardening of the breast do not necessarily have to result in puberty gynecomastia. Rather, palpable hardened, painful nipples are in many cases part of the development of the male breast and are completely harmless.

Anabolic steroids

Anabolic steroids are substances that promote the growth of body tissue by enhancing the body’s own protein biosynthesis. The best known preparations of anabolic steroids are the so-called steroids, which are similar in their effect to the male sex hormone testosterone. In weight training, they are used for the rapid build-up of muscle tissue during intensive training.

The numerous side effects of steroid use include acne, cardiovascular problems and liver damage. In men, a reduction in testicular tissue with cessation of sperm production and gynecomastia, i.e. excessive breast growth, can occasionally be observed.
