Rash on the outside of the thigh
A skin rash on the thigh can never be judged solely on its location. Whether a rash is located on the outside or inside of the thigh does not necessarily say anything about the cause. There are, however, skin rashes that are preferentially found at certain localizations.A possible cause of a skin rash on the outside of the thigh is shingles.
It is not strictly limited to the outside of the thigh, but also affects parts of the back or front of the thigh. A kind of belt-shaped infestation pattern is typical. Contact allergies can also cause a skin rash on the outside of the thigh. Of course, other causes (see section Causes) are also conceivable for such a rash.
Rash treatment and therapy
There are many different options for treating a rash on the thigh. A distinction is made between topical and systemic treatments. Depending on the cause, the therapeutic measures differ fundamentally from one another.
Infectious skin rashes can be treated with various antibiotic, antiviral or fungicidal drugs. Frequent shingles of the thigh are treated with aciclovir tablets or infusions and local aciclovir ointments for external application. An infection with itch mites, on the other hand, can be treated with the active ingredient permethrin.
Many skin rashes are also treated with ointments containing cortisone or cortisone tablets. One example of this is neurodermatitis. Erysipelas of the thigh are treated in an inpatient setting with penicillin infusions over a period of several days. Some skin rashes, such as intertrigo, require special care measures. The therapy of a rash on the thigh is therefore very versatile and cannot be summarized in a generalized way.
Rash during pregnancy
It is known that during pregnancy rashes can occur more often than during pregnancy. These are also called pregnancy dermatoses. The existence of some pregnancy dermatoses is controversial, whereas others are very well known and widespread.
Furthermore, pregnancy can also affect rashes associated with skin diseases (dermatoses) that also occur outside pregnancy. Skin changes can also occur on the thighs during pregnancy. A frequent cause is a congestion of the lymph in the legs.
A slight lymph congestion during pregnancy is a natural occurrence, but even if it is very pronounced, it can lead to eczema, redness and scaling of the thighs and lower legs. Another possible cause of a rash is increased friction on the thighs due to weight gain. The disturbed lymphatic drainage further promotes colonization with a pathogen, so that fungal infections can occur.
They are also characterized by redness, scaling and itching. Furthermore, polymorphic pregnancy dermatosis can cause a skin rash on the thighs. This skin disease, which occurs in late pregnancy, is characterized by various itchy skin changes, from flat spots to raised papules (thickening of the skin). Typical is an infestation of the abdomen – with recesses in the navel region, the legs, the arms and the lateral parts of the trunk. Click here for the main article: Skin rash during pregnancy
