Seborrheic Eczema: Medical History

Medical history (history of the patient) represents an important component in the diagnosis of seborrheic eczema.

Family history

  • Are there frequent skin diseases in your family?

Social history

  • What is your profession?
  • Is there any evidence of psychosocial stress or strain due to your family situation?

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • On which parts of the body – e.g. eyebrows, hairline, between lip and nose, sweat groove – do the skin changes (greasy scaling, yellow foci; on a reddened background) occur?
  • Have these appearances changed (in size, shape, color, etc.)?
  • How long have these changes existed?
  • Are there any other symptoms?
  • Do you have increased stress?
  • Have you been exposed to climatic fluctuations/changes?
