Should physiotherapy be performed again? | Midfoot fracture loaded too early

Should physiotherapy be performed again?

Whether further physiotherapy is necessary after too early exercise depends on the symptoms that occur. Lymph drainage will help with pain and swelling. In addition, the physiotherapist can apply a relieving or lymph flow promoting tape. Cooling and elevation can be done by the patient at home at any time. If there are movement restrictions or if there are still problems with rolling, the physiotherapist can improve the movement and point out the individual phases of running by means of a gait training.

When can the foot be loaded again?

The doctor in charge decides when the patient can be charged again. After a surgical procedure, the foot should not be loaded for at least 6 weeks. This is followed by partial weight bearing with supports. If no operation has been performed, the foot is immobilized for 2-4 weeks and can then be loaded carefully once the pain and swelling have subsided. In any case, attention should be paid to the smallest signs/symptoms that could possibly cause a worsening.

Does too early loading prolong the healing time?

If too early loading has been applied and there is a recurrence or flare-up of the early symptoms, the duration of healing may be prolonged. Possibly the area will break open again or in a different place. If this is the case, the load must be reduced completely and wound healing begins again. Then the duration of healing is prolonged.
