Side effects | Bepanthen® eye and nose ointment

Side effects

Side effects are hardly to be expected when using Bepanthen® eye and nose ointment. The contained active ingredient is similar to a vitamin naturally occurring in the skin and no other additives are included. The only known possible side effect of Bepanthen® Eye and Nose Ointment is an intolerance reaction which can manifest itself as a contact allergy.

In the skin area where the cream has been applied, an often painful and itchy redness occurs. In some cases, blisters can also form. If such symptoms occur during the application of Bepanthen® eye and nose ointment, the medication should be washed off immediately and avoided from now on.

However, contact allergy as a side effect of Bepanthen® eye and nose ointment is rare. Expressed in numbers, this means that the side effect is to be expected in less than one in 1,000 but in more than one in 10,000 users. Further side effects of the ointment are not known.

Interactions

Interactions with other drugs or ointments are not expected when using Bepanthen® eye and nose ointment. However, in the case of diseases that require the use of other medications for the eyes or nose, the doctor should be consulted, if necessary, whether Bepanthen® Eye and Nose Ointment can be used additionally. If, for example, another cream has been prescribed, it is possible that its active ingredient cannot penetrate the skin sufficiently when Bepanthen® Eye and Nose Ointment is used simultaneously.

Contraindication

Bepanthen® eye and nose ointment should not be used if you have already had a hypersensitive (e.g. allergic) reaction to one of the components of the cream during a previous application. Possible symptoms of intolerance that occur during the first application, such as itching or burning, are therefore also counter-signs for which the application should be discontinued. Furthermore, contact lens wearers should not use Bepanthen® Eye and Nose Ointment in the eye area while wearing the lenses.

Otherwise the lenses may become smudged and the vision may be reduced. Furthermore an incompatibility with the lens material is possible. In addition, if the cream is applied to the eye, short-term visual impairment is generally possible. Therefore, there are also contraindications for the application of the cream if, for example, active participation in road traffic is pending or work has to be carried out where machines have to be operated. Pregnancy and lactation, however, are no counter-signs and Bepanthen® eye and nose ointment can be used without hesitation.

Can Bepanthen eye and nose ointment also be used for lips?

Bepanthen® eye and nose ointment may also be used for lip care without hesitation. Especially for very dry and brittle lips the cream can be a good alternative to the common lip care products. However, the cream is thicker and less quickly absorbed, which some users find unpleasant. In addition, the application of Bepanthen® eye and nose ointment on the lips usually leads to a pronounced shine which can also be perceived as annoying. It is best to simply try out the application of the cream for the lips and then decide if you want to continue using it for this purpose.
