Sports for coccyx inflammation
Sport is considered an important trigger of inflammation of the periosteum of the coccyx due to the overloading of the muscles around the coccyx. It is not uncommon for the symptoms to occur only during sport as sudden, severe and stabbing pain in the coccyx area. Similar to the severe strain and overloading of the pelvic floor muscles caused by chronic constipation, overloading during sports can also lead to inflammation of the periosteum.
In this case, sparing is considered the means of choice for healing. However, sparing is not to be equated with doing without, but means gentle movement of the coccyx. Gentle sports such as aquafitness or similar are permitted, in which no strain is placed on the coccyx.
As a rule of thumb, any kind of sport is allowed that does not cause pain and does not further overstrain the area. Unsuitable for re-entry, but also during the therapy period, are sports that are associated with high stress on the coccyx, such as cycling or riding. In the case of a coccyx fistula, sports are also only permitted in the pain-free and gentle area.
After open surgery, sitting is not even allowed for a certain period of time, so sports are completely taboo at the beginning. Only after consultation with the physician is gentle movement allowed at his discretion. After the pit-picking operation, sport is permitted to the full extent possible on the first day after the operation. Even visits to the swimming pool are no problem due to the smallest wounds.
