Suicidality usually results from a physician’s interview in which the patient describes his or her mental situation or reports a suicide attempt.
Illnesses of the patient that are associated with an increased risk of suicidality should be reason for the physician to watch for signs of suicidality. Any suicide announcement should be taken seriously!
Ask openly about any suicide plans. What preparations have already been made? If necessary, the affected person must be treated in a closed ward (even against his will) to protect him.
