Taping of the finger | Overstretched finger

Taping of the finger

A further measure in the treatment of an overstretched finger is the taping of the finger, for example with kinesio tape. It is a popular method for muscle, ligament and bone injuries and provides additional stability in the finger. The tape should be applied along the finger bands.

This reduces the tensile forces on the joint and relieves the ligaments. This can be helpful in the healing process of ligament stretching. In addition, wearing a tape can also serve to prevent an injury.

Healing time

Overstretching in the finger area usually heals within a few days without complications. However, until the pain and swelling have subsided completely, you should refrain from exercising and only slowly start moving again afterwards. If pain and movement restrictions persist over a longer period of time, a doctor should be consulted to rule out other diseases.

Prognosis

Ligament or capsule stretching usually heals without complications. However, overstretching can occur more frequently with previously damaged ligaments. Multiple overstretching also increases the risk of more serious injuries, such as a torn capsule or arthrosis. In rare cases, overstretching can lead to permanent movement restrictions.
