Therapy | Inflammation of the hip

Therapy

In the case of an infectious inflammation of the hip, it is treated with the appropriate antibiotic as soon as the pathogen is determined. During an in-patient treatment in hospital, this treatment is usually carried out intravenously by means of infusions for several days, which has the advantage that the antibiotic reaches the blood system more quickly and the inflammation often subsides more quickly. But it is also possible to take tablets.

In addition, treatment of the symptoms is necessary. The patient can also receive pain-relieving medication such as ibuprofen. He should also relieve and spare the joint.

This also helps to relieve the pain. If the medicinal and conservative treatment is unsuccessful and the inflammation does not recede, surgery may be necessary. In this operation, the focus of the inflammation is cleared and the inflamed material is removed. A drainage remains in the surgical wound for several days, which continues to drain fluid from the inflammatory area and thus prevents the inflammation from reoccurring.

Prognosis

An inflammation of the hip is usually very good and quickly treatable and heals very well in most cases. In more serious cases, when surgery was necessary, it can also very well prevent secondary damage to the joint structures involved. In children, hip joint inflammation usually heals very quickly and the hip is not impaired in its function.
