Home remedies
The best home remedy for preventing sun allergy is to slowly get used to the UV rays. If you start sunbathing slowly and extend the duration of sun exposure for several minutes every day, there is a good chance that you will not have an allergic reaction. Particularly at the beginning of the vacation or in the first warm days of spring, sun allergy sufferers should be careful, as the skin is still in hibernation and is not accustomed to the sun’s rays.
Sun cream with UV protection is an absolute must before sunbathing. It should not be forgotten that UV rays can also penetrate through window glass. The same applies to stays in the shade, here too you have to apply sunscreen, as the UV rays are reflected by the ground and are therefore omnipresent.
Antioxidants
In case of a sun allergy, the combination of a sun cream with an antioxidant, for example vitamin C or vitamin E, can be useful. Antioxidants protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals, which sunlight causes. In most cases, these substances are contained directly in the sun cream and do not need to be added separately.
Getting used to
For most people, sun allergy occurs mainly at the beginning of exposure to the sun, i.e. during the first warm days or at the beginning of the summer vacation. The allergic reaction often affects those parts of the body that are rarely exposed to the sun’s rays (for example, the insides of the forearms, décolleté and shoulders). A slow habituation to the sun can help to prevent a sun allergy. Therefore, people with sensitive skin are advised not to go into the blazing sun immediately, but to stay in the shade for the time being. Gradually, the time in the sun can then be extended.
