With an HIV infection, the immune system is severely compromised. It can happen that other pathogens have an easy time and spread faster than usual. Especially a fungal infection often affects HIV-infected persons.

Many people are confused as to whether this symptom occurs in the acute phase of the infection or only later. It is very likely that this HIV symptom appears later, when the immune system is already somewhat damaged, because fungal infections usually do not spread as much in healthy people.
