Treatment of the disease only with homeopathy or only as supportive therapy?
In principle, a gastrointestinal infection can initially only be treated with homeopathy. In many cases harmless viruses are behind the symptoms caused. The diseases are then often self-limiting, which means that after a certain period of time, they subside by themselves. However, if the symptoms do not improve, a medical examination should be carried out and appropriate treatment should be initiated. The homeopathic remedies can then continue to be used in a supportive manner after consultation.
When do I have to go to the doctor?
Not every symptom of the digestive tract needs to be treated by a doctor.Often these are harmless triggers of the complaints and the diseases or infections disappear within a few days by themselves.
- If there is no improvement after three days of rest, a doctor should be consulted.
- A doctor should also be consulted at an earlier stage in the event of other symptoms such as massive and frequent diarrhoea, blood in the stool or severe pain in the abdominal area.
Other alternative forms of therapy
An important part of the therapy of gastrointestinal diseases is nutrition. Attention should be paid to a balanced and structured diet. This leads to a strengthening of the immune system and a reduced susceptibility to infections.
To this end, it is useful, for example, to set a time limit for the last meal of the day. Certain foods, such as coffee, alcohol, pork, milk and foods containing sugar, should also be reduced. There are various medicinal plants that can be used for gastrointestinal infections.
These include chamomile, which should be drunk regularly in the form of tea. Chamomile has a calming effect on the mucous membrane of the stomach and inhibits inflammatory processes. Fennel tea also has a calming effect on the gastrointestinal tract. Other medicinal plants for digestive disorders are celandine, yarrow, willow herb and mandrake root.
