What are the pregnancy hormones like after a miscarriage?

After a miscarriage the beta-HCG level drops again within a few weeks, so that it can no longer be detected. A hormonal adjustment of the remaining hormones to the non-pregnant state takes place. This can take several weeks. Normalization of the period may therefore also take some time. Since hormone levels are very individual, there are no standard values.

Pregnancy test

Pregnancy tests use the hormone beta-HCG as the basis for measuring pregnancy. A distinction is made between measurements of the hormone in urine and measurements in blood. Urine tests are commercial pregnancy tests that can be performed at home.

Measurements in the blood are more precise and are performed by a doctor. Some urine tests are already so sensitive that they can indicate a pregnancy 2 days before the expected period. In principle, however, a result is only considered certain 2 days after the expected period.

However, false-positive or false-negative results can also occur. If there is any uncertainty, a blood test and a doctor’s examination should be performed.
