What is the implantation bleeding?
Nidation bleeding is a classic sign of the implantation of the egg. The bleeding is caused by the fusion, i.e. the “fusing” of the outer cells of the germ (syncytiotrophoblasts) and the cells of the endometrium. The lining of the uterus is maximally thickened in the second half of the cycle to ensure optimal conditions for implantation.
So-called spiral arteries snake their way through the mucous membrane. These blood vessels are essential for supplying the placenta after implantation. Because the uterine lining is so well supplied with blood, bleeding can easily occur during implantation. The bleeding is rather easy and is completely harmless for the further development of the pregnancy. However, it can also be confused with premature menstruation, which is why only a pregnancy test can give a reliable answer to the question of a possible pregnancy.
What is the implantation pain?
The implantation pain is described as the pain that can be felt during the migration of the blastocyst through the fallopian tube and during the actual implantation in the uterine lining. This pain has not yet been scientifically confirmed and is therefore not considered to be an uncertain pregnancy sign. Many women do not perceive the implantation at all, since a possible implantation pain usually has a very low intensity. However, there are also reports, especially from women who listen very sensitively to their body, that a pulling in the abdomen or even a slight pain was noticed a few days after ovulation. A pain or pulling in the abdomen can have many other causes and is not untypical for the regular menstrual cycle. Therefore, the distinction between pregnancy and not is usually not based on the perceived pain.
How can I support or promote the implantation?
The process of implantation of the blastocyst into the endometrium cannot be directly influenced by external factors. Nevertheless, if you are planning to have children, you should make sure that you eat a healthy diet, do sufficient sport and avoid stress as much as possible. Furthermore, no alcohol should be drunk and smoking should be avoided.
Although these measures have no direct scientific influence on implantation, they are enormously important for the further development of the unborn child. For this reason, if you wish to have children, it is recommended that you take preparations such as folic acid before pregnancy. If you are unsure which measures should be taken to create optimal conditions for pregnancy, a clarifying discussion with a gynaecologist can help.
