Types of household remedies
Olive oil or other oils such as linseed oil or germ oil can be helpful for constipation. For this purpose, adults should take a tea spoon or tablespoon of olive oil pure or diluted with some lemon. If the constipation is permanent, oil can be taken regularly in the morning on an empty stomach.
An important characteristic of virgin olive oil is its good emulsifiability, so that the intestinal enzymes can easily break down and almost completely utilize the added fats. In addition, olive oil has a positive effect on bile flow, which is therefore highly recommended for patients with stomach problems. Teas help with constipation, especially because a sufficient fluid intake is essential for adequate stool production.
The liquid can be taken in the form of tea or other drinks. There are certain teas that are said to be particularly effective for constipation, such as senna leaf tea. In general, the regular intake of fruit should counteract constipation.
Bananas are an exception to this rule, as they tend to cause constipation. Apple cider vinegar is said to have a digestive effect, you should add a little apple vinegar to a glass of water and drink it slowly. Dried plums are one of the most popular household remedies for constipation.
They should be soaked in water for a few hours and can then be taken either pure or, for example, in combination with some yoghurt. Plum juice can also help to stimulate bowel activity. Flea seed contains a lot of dietary fiber and is therefore a swelling agent.
This means that it binds water in the intestine and thus makes the stool softer and stimulates intestinal activity. For application, about 1 teaspoon of psyllium should be added to 100 ml of water. This can be absorbed after a short soaking phase.
However, psyllium can also be absorbed unsoaked, for example by mixing it with muesli or yoghurt. It is very important with swelling substances such as psyllium that you drink enough afterwards, as otherwise the constipation can become even worse. Ginger is said to stimulate the metabolism.
It can be added to food or brewed as tea. To do this, peel part of the tuber and cut it into strips, then pour hot but not boiling water over it and enjoy. Coffee is not for nothing gladly enjoyed after an opulent meal.
It stimulates the digestion. Thus, regular moderate coffee consumption can ensure good bowel movement regulation. The same applies to linseed as to flea seed.

Salt water helps with constipation for two reasons. On the one hand, the supply of liquid is important to ensure regular bowel movements, on the other hand the salt contained in the water draws more water in the intestine. This makes the stool softer and makes it easier to defecate.
However, it also has several disadvantages: The taste takes getting used to and the dosage should be done carefully, because too much salt can be a danger for the body. Salt water should also not be taken by patients with known high blood pressure. Wheat bran is also a remedy that can be successfully used for constipation.
It contains numerous dietary fibres. It can be ingested in many different ways. Stirred into liquid, added to muesli or used as an ingredient in home-baked bread.
When using wheat bran, it is important to drink enough liquid throughout the day. As already mentioned, sufficient fluid intake is extremely important for stimulating bowel activity. Many affected people report that this stimulation works better with warm water than with cold.
Especially when the intestine is somewhat sluggish, drinking 1-2 glasses of warm water can help to relieve constipation.Cherries, like many other types of fruit, are considered a good way to prevent constipation. For this, however, regular intake is necessary. Cherries are not suitable for acutely relieving constipation. Grapes, such as wine grapes, also stimulate intestinal activity and thus prevent constipation if taken regularly. This also applies to many other fruits and vegetables.
