Associated symptoms | Trisomy 13 in the unborn child

Associated symptoms

As the neck wrinkle measurement is usually carried out in the 10th to 14th week of pregnancy, there are usually no symptoms or signs that the pregnant woman might notice before the diagnosis is made. If trisomy 13 remains undetected, symptoms only appear after birth due to the maldevelopment of the internal organs, the skeletal system and the central nervous system.

TreatmentTherapy

There is no treatment for trisomy 13 before birth. After birth there are a number of options to ensure the best possible care for the child. Nevertheless, the prognosis of a child with trisomy 13 is very poor.

Prognosis Duration

The prognosis of a child with trisomy 13 is poor. A large number of children die already intrauterine and another part dies within the first month of life. Only a very small proportion of children reach an age of more than six months despite treatment.
